Visual Art by Nicole Saenz
Hello, my name is Nicole Saenz.
My process is intuitive and impulsive, guided by what feels innate rather than planned. I work from both references and imagination, allowing emotion and instinct to lead the way.
My drawings are inspired by the character of faces—how specific features carry personality and define identity as well as my exhilarating experiences life drawing where I developed a deep relationship with charcoal.
My work varies in approach—some pieces are minimal, bleak, and abstract, while others are more expressive, detailed, and representational. Shifts in level of detail are intentional and reflect changes in emotional intensity.
I draw inspiration from artists such as Käthe Kollwitz and Francisco Goya, as well as from people I have encountered both personally and professionally. I view my art as a way of making internal experience visible, allowing the unconscious to surface freely through mark-making, similar to dreaming.
